The Annual Day Celebration of Mother Velankani English School and Junior College was held with great enthusiasm and grandeur on Friday, 10th January 2025. The theme of the programme was “Retro to Metro – On the Path of Women Empowerment.”
The programme began with the auspicious lighting of the lamp in the presence of dignitaries, followed by the National Anthem. This was followed by a Ganesh Vandana and a welcome song presented by the students, which created a pleasant and sacred atmosphere in the auditorium.
The Chief Guest for the occasion was Mrs. Bharati Harish Pawar, a renowned social worker and a leading figure in the field of women empowerment. The programme was also graced by the presence of the Chairperson of the Institution, Mrs. Asha Mathew D’Souza, Trustee Mr. Gabriel Murzello, Vice Chairperson Mr. Deep Gabriel Murzello, Trustee Mrs. Mabel Vaz, Principal Mrs. Swita D’Souza, along with other dignitaries, parents, teachers, and staff members.
Students from Nursery to Grade XI presented a variety of performances including classical and western dances, group dances, duet dances, solo performances, skits, a fashion show, and theme-based presentations highlighting women empowerment. Through the concept of “Retro to Metro,” students beautifully conveyed the message of preserving traditional values while embracing modern thinking and showcasing the strength and progress of women.
A special attraction of the programme was a journey presentation highlighting the educational, social, and institutional life of the Chairperson, Mrs. Asha D’Souza. The presentation reflected her vision, dedication, sacrifices, hard work, and deep commitment to education, leaving the audience inspired.
In her address, Chief Guest Mrs. Bharati Harish Pawar expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Chairperson Mrs. Asha D’Souza for the invitation. She appreciated the programme for being well-organized, disciplined, and inspiring. She particularly praised the journey video of Mrs. Asha D’Souza, describing it as deeply emotional and motivational, and stated that it would serve as a guiding light for many women. Speaking on the theme of women empowerment, she emphasized that when women become self-reliant, families, society, and the nation as a whole become stronger.
On this occasion, a felicitation ceremony was held to honour teachers and non-teaching staff for their sincere and dedicated service. Meritorious students of the academic year 2024–25, including Grade X and XII achievers, as well as students who excelled in sports and other fields, were also honoured.
Later, Chairperson Mrs. Asha D’Souza, in her speech, appreciated the theme of the Annual Day celebration and praised the creativity, confidence, and performances of the students. She congratulated the teachers, non-teaching staff, and the organising committee for their tireless efforts and extended her best wishes to everyone for a bright future.
The entire programme was a grand success and truly memorable, made possible by the hidden talents of students, dedicated guidance of teachers, and excellent planning by the management. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks to the dignitaries, parents, and audience members.
